Dogs that are frequent boarders rarely get sick in any way. The same thing goes for dogs that are frequently in and about in public places. These dogs have stronger immune systems. On the other hand, a dog that spends his time only in the house and backyard is at higher risk. This type of dog may also experience more stress when moved to a new environment. Ask us about conditioning a shy, anxious or underexposed dog for boarding.

We do not accept dogs into the kennel that appear sick in any way. It is possible that a dog with a strong immune system can carry a virus without actually showing any symptoms of being sick.

At a kennel (or any other place) where a lot of dogs get together, there is a higher risk of getting kennel cough. This upper respiratory cough is caused by an airborne virus. When it sweeps an area, some dogs will pick it up. Most dogs that are properly vaccinated will only be slightly affected and some not at all. Kennel cough can also be transmitted from one dog to another. Getting sick or not getting sick has a lot to do with the individual dog's immune system. Stress also makes a dog an easier target for a cough.

If we discover a break-out of kennel cough, we call all our scheduled clients and inform them of the situation. They can then decide if they want to bring their dog or make other arrangements.

There is a risk of getting sores and scratches during playtime. Very rarely does anything happen. The dogs are supervised during playtime. Some dogs may wear off the skin on top of their nose trying to get into another dogs run. Also, some dogs may wear the skin down on the front paws running and digging on the cement.

We do our very best to make each guest comfortable. Even so, some dogs will be very anxious and nervous when they visit. This can result in diarrhea or "hot spots", a skin irritation. Fortunately, most dogs do not react this way
